Space by Ricardo Da Cunha - $99 including postage within Australia (or a little more elsewhere)

Publishing your own book is almost a rite of passage for photographers when they become a little more serious. We can produce a wonderful tome with an on-demand printer like Momento Pro, or we can take the next step and pay for a longer run of books with an offset printer - like Ricardo Da Cunha has done with his book Space.

And Space is a marvelous collection of genuinely inspiring photographs. Over the past 10 years or so, the quietly spoken Ricardo has stealthily made his presence felt in Australian photographic circles, winning awards and exhibiting with the Light Collective Photographers. Unlike some of his more excitable and extroverted friends, also great photographers in their own right, Ricardo seems to sit back, to observe and then go to work. And his work is fresh and demanding of attention.

Space contains a portfolio of ideas that can be described as elegantly simple, yet the straight forward compositions are undoubtedly the result of a lot of thought and editing time. His use of post-production is entirely appropriate.

Space is a 148-page, A4 coffee table book with an embossed linen cover and a matte surface dust jacket. It's printed on carbon neutral matte paper and begins with a forward by David duChemin. It even includes a bonus of therapeutic sounds which I haven't availed myself of just yet - but I have certainly loved the photos!

As a community, we should all support photographers who take a deep breath and publish a book of their work, so with this in mind, head over to Ricardo's website and make a purchase - you won't regret it! And yes, I did buy my own copy and no, Ricardo doesn't know I have written this!
