Writes Mike Langford, "On 7 September 2021, I had a regular visit to see our local GP to get my blood pressure tablets renewed. While there, the doctor asked if I had anything else to report, so I mentioned that I had developed a small stitch-like feeling on the left side of the body around the kidney region. It had happened while walking to the local 3 Square Supermarket, (we also have a larger 4 Square in town, so to differentiate between the two we refer to the smaller one as the 3 Square). On putting his hand around the region of my left kidney, he realised that I had a problem and quickly confirmed that I had a very large growth on my kidney.
I had a stage two cancer.
Life changes when you first hear something like this, especially when you have never been to hospital in your life before and here you are almost seventy!
The next day I went out and photographed the snow that had fallen overnight. Some of the images were lonely and isolated, which is probably how I was feeling within myself, even though I had the wonderful, caring and loving Jackie by my side. I was obviously reacting to my emotions – a little scared and a little inwardly isolated."
