Although the Fujifilm GFX is a large format camera system, it doesn’t mean the camera or its lenses have to be large as well. In fact, it’s quite the opposite as the latest lens in the GF range proves.

The GF 35-70mm f4.5-5.6 WR weighs approximately 390 grams with a 62mm filter size, so it sits nicely on the GFX camera bodies. The 35-70mm zoom range is equivalent to 28-55mm on a full-frame sensor and its retractable barrel structure reduces the length to just 73.9 mm when fully collapsed, making it a great lens to carry when travelling.

The compact and lightweight focusing elements are complemented by a stepping motor for silent, fast and highly accurate AF to smoothly focus on any subject. The lens offers a minimum working distance of 35 cm across its zoom range, so it caters to a variety of photography genres, from tabletop and snapshots to portraiture and landscapes.

Technically, the GF35-70 mm consists of 11 elements, including one aspherical element and two ED elements, in nine groups. Fujifilm claims its advanced image-resolving capability with well-controlled spherical and chromatic aberrations, provide a precise description of each scene, even when shot at wide-angle focal lengths.

The GF 35-70mm supports Face/Eye Detection AF modes and autofocus is achieved in as little as 0.13 second. It is particularly effective in portraiture that involves subject movement, capturing a momentary change in facial expression or eye position (as the subject moves lightly backwards or forwards). The low operation noise during focusing makes it suitable for both stills and videos.

The lens barrel is weather-sealed at nine locations to make it dust and moisture-resistant and it’s capable of being used in temperatures as low as -10°C (we’re pretty sure it would work in temperatures lower than this as well). The lens can also withstand rain, making it ideal for location work when the elements conspire against you.
