Yet Another Level
“When you look at the photographs in this book, ask yourself if your landscape photographs are really good enough to sit alongside?
Maybe one or two are, but I know deep down that a lot of my favourite photographs wouldn't make the grade. It's not that they aren't 'great' in their own right or they are technically deficient, it's just that the Top 101 landscape photographs in this book are better in one way or another: better technically, better aesthetically, or of a more exciting subject, location or event. Perhaps they are better in several ways - if I knew the ingredient that makes that
difference, I'd be a very smart person!
Fortunately, I'm not a judge, just an administrator and in this role, I feel I have seen a noticeable lift in the level of work submitted – not just the Top 101, but the top 501. The work has been simply stellar.
However, we can only accept the Top 101 for publication and to win the major prize, the Landscape Photographer of the Year, requires more than a single good image – it requires four great photos. This is why we have two award categories – the photograph of the year (for single images) and the photographER of the year for a portfolio of work. While taking a single prize-winning image is challenging, creating four of them is more challenging still.
So, a big congratulations to J. Fritz Rumpf from the USA, our International Landscape Photographer of the Year for 2025.
This is the twelfth year of our awards. We received 3601 entries and the threshold for inclusion in the book (a Top 101 entry) was a score of 86.6%. And as we have done in previous years, we've included an online listing of the next 101 top scoring photographs (our Top 202+). Congratulations to all these photographers.
There is US $12,500 cash purse for the best Photograph of the Year (single shot, 1st, 2nd, 3rd), the best Photographer of the Year (portfolio of four photographs, 1st, 2nd, 3rd), and five special subject awards. All 11 winners also receive a physical copy of the annual Awards book.
Thanks of course to our judging team: David Burnett, Jim M. Goldstein, Kaye Davis, Tim Parkin and last year's winner, Andrew Mielzynski.
On behalf of David Evans, my co-convenor, we hope you enjoy the best landscape photographs in the world from 2025.”
