Peter has visited PNG twice and while it’s a place he loves to photograph, it can be difficult to get around. So, he’s never offered a photo tour before.
Then he and Tony were introduced to Tim and Julie at Unparalleled Journeys / Melanesian Journeys who are experts in PNG. They offered to put together a photography program for us to explore - along with a local ‘tour director’ who will accompany us to solve all the logisitics that are a part of daily life in PNG!
There’s no doubt PNG is still a wild place in many ways, but it has been gentrified for the tourist experience so we can travel in both comfort and safety. With our cameras!
There are a number of transfer flights involved as the landscape is incredibly hilly and mountainous with few or no connecting roads. And this is the advantage we have, allowing us to visit quite different and distinct locations.
What’s so amazing about PNG? For Peter, it’s the people, their masks and customs. The country is tropical and hot, with lush jungles and crystal clear waters. There are volcanoes, World War II ruins and an island way of life. But we’ll spend most of our time photographing the people and their customs. As you’ll read in the following itinerary, we will be able to interact with the locals in privately organised photo shoots. It’s ideal for getting some great portraits of authentic masks and costumes.
The cost includes practically everything. We cover hotels, all meals and transport (including internal airfares), plus there is a 45 minute helicopter flight over Rabaul and its volcano, and in the afternoon an optional snorkle/swim!
All you’ll need is some pocket money for souvenirs (Peter’s home has some great masks and statuettes) and maybe a glass or two of red wine (or a G&T for those so inclined).
