After purchasing Quiet Light, editor Peter Eastway corresponds with its author and photographer Adam Gibbs to learn more about his considered creative process.

"I purchased Quiet Light via Adam Gibbs’ website. The link takes you to Kozu Books, a small UK book publisher focusing on landscape photography. If you’re interested in some great books, take a look and specifically, take a look at Adam’s book. I bought a copy along with one by Hans Strand. They arrived a week or so later in the post – and they were simply marvellous.

"It’s not just the great photography, it’s also the fact you’re enjoying a reflected light image, turning the pages of a physical object, smelling the ink, feeling the texture. I love books!

"And I also love Adam’s photography, so I touched base with him for this article. As the International Landscape Photographer of the Year back in 2018, Adam Gibbs is well established on the global scene as a photographer, author and workshop leader. And like many landscape photographers, the use of a camera evolved from a love of the outdoors.

Explains Adam, “I would love to tell you that photography was my calling, but the reality is that I took up photography serendipitously after a casual glance through one of John Shaw’s nature photography books.

“Like most people with a camera, I was a snapshooter and I quickly discovered that purchasing a shiny new SLR didn’t make me an instant pro. I was an amateur with a nice camera.

“However, I was compelled to find out why my pictures didn’t have the clarity, sharpness and sense of design like those of the pros. Rather than fumble my way through..."
