Ritual - Bhutan
Over a period of ten years, Peter Eastway has spent several months travelling through and photographing the remote Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan – the Land of the Thunder Dragon. While a vibrant and modern economy in many ways, arrival in Bhutan is like stepping back in time with many people still wearing traditional dress, their culture infused with Tibetan Buddhism. Giant fortified dzongs cling to cliffs, scarlet-robed monks chant deep within the temples while outside, the faithful turn ornate prayer wheels. Bhutan is a land like no other.
This book depicts the many rituals that punctuate the Bhutanese calendar, from major community festivals to private ceremonies in village homes. Rich in colour and content, Peter investigates and interprets the soul of Bhutanese beliefs.
Ritual – Bhutan is one of three in a series. The other two books are Myth – Bhutan and Life – Bhutan.
