When Scale Is Impossible To Tell

When Scale Is Impossible To Tell

Mountain and glacier, Palanderbukta, SvalbardPhase One XF 150MP, 240mm LS Schneider Krueznach, f4.5 @ 1/1250 second, ISO 100, exposure averaging for 30 seconds.  It’s hard to know exactly how big this landscape really is. Some photographers suggest including an object of known size to give a sense of scale; others like the fact that you just can’t tell, enjoying the ambiguity. Years ago in Antarctica, where the air is incredibly clear, I remember looking at a ship on the other side of the bay. It...

Fresh Snow In Ansel Adams’ Yosemite National Park

Forest Detail, Yosemite National Park, CaliforniaPhase One XF, IQ3 100MP Trichromatic, 240mm Schneider Kreuznach, f4 @ 1/1600 second, ISO 400 Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. Over the decades of visiting Yosemite National Park in Western USA, I’ve always wondered what it would be like in fresh snow.
