The Creatives Studio

The Creatives Studio

Delly Carr is one of the greatest sports photographers on earth. It’s not a stretch to call him the greatest. From humble beginnings in Sydney as the young sports-obsessed son of migrant parents, Delly Carr found his photographic fire on the sidelines of high school rugby matches. That flame was fanned by a bourgeoning entrepreneurial spirit, and the guts of a renegade. He was going to become a sports photographer, but he was going to do it his way. Since Delly captured his first Olympic Games...

Don’t Get Too Close To The Towers

Don’t Get Too Close To The Towers

Mestia in winter, Caucasus Mountains, GeorgiaPhase One A-Series, IQ3 100MP sensor, 180mm Rodenstock, f11 @ 1/4 second, ISO 50. Dotted around the medieval village of Mestia in the Caucasus Mountains you’ll find dozens of ancient square towers, with smooth stone sides and capped with a wooden platform and roof. The stories are varied. Some say the tower was a defensive structure and when your enemy came knocking, you’d pour boiling oil or drop large rocks on them from the safety of your perch....

A Splash Of Colour

A Splash Of Colour

Caucasus Mountains, GeorgiaPhase One A-Series, IQ3 100MP sensor, 180mm Rodenstock, f11 @ 1/60 second, ISO 50.  I am accused (sometimes rightly) of using a lot of colour in my photography. Disingenuous critics suggest I have a 200% colour saturation slider, but I like to think that when my colour looks saturated, it’s just as much about a commensurate lack of colour in the surroundings. We’re often told to lighten up our subject and darken our background as this draws the viewer’s attention to what’s...

Description

One spot has just become available for this trip (was previously booked out!).  There are also places available for the second trip on14 to 20 August which is identical to this one (no need to use a Phase One camera!)

Middlehurst is a high end photography retreat and experience for photographers who already understand how to use their camera and are ready to learn about the philosophy and aesthetics of art photography and image-making.

You don’t have to be an expert with your camera, but you should be ready to challenge yourself when it comes to creativity!

Peter Eastway and Tony Hewitt visited Middlehurst Station in June 2015 and fell in love with the location. It feels like ‘Middle Earth’ and you expect to see trolls and hobbits around every corner. So enamoured are they with Middlehurst that it has now become an annual pilgrimage.

In 2018, Peter won the AIPP Photography Book Award for his book ‘Middlehurst: Middle-Earth’, which was shot during these workshops. The judges had also fallen in love with the landscape! And you will too! And you'll also be part of the book!

The Art Photography Experience is limited to 8 participants.

It is likely to be cold outside and the weather is variable, exactly what we want.

However, the lodgings are wonderful! Built in 2019, the new ’Quarters’ feature private rooms and modern shared bathrooms. And best of all, we have our own chef - the food is nothing short of stellar!

Now, lock the ten of us away on an amazing sheep station in the remote New Zealand high country. When you stand on the top of a hill and look out as far as you can towards distant, snow-capped peaks, it’s breathtaking to realise this is all one station.

And it’s private land, so you can’t just go here by yourself. And even if you could, access to many of the locations is only by sturdy 4WDs driven by expert station hands who know the tracks, or experienced helicopter pilots who fly the area.

So, location is five stars. Food six stars! Lodgings are incredibly comfortable and now the scene is set for you to not only have a great experience, but do something with it as well: take your photography to the next level.

Don’t delay - places book up quickly.
