Over the years, we’ve discovered that many of our best photos happen when we’re on the road. Sure, our itinerary includes a series of key destinations which we thoroughly explore, but it’s the unexpected, unplanned moments that we live for.
Despite this free-flowing philosophy, we’ve refined the trip we did last year and put together an exciting itinerary which includes a comfortable bed at the end of each day. We’re not quite sure where we’ll eat quite yet, but hey, this is Italy! How hard can it be to get a great meal! Not sure what Tony will eat with his strange diet, but Peter’s landed in vegetarian heaven and there’s no shortage of quaffable reds as well.
Oh, and the photography? We’re starting in Rome and heading north to Tuscany. We’ll base ourselves in Pienza, San Gimignano and Cinque Terra, giving ourselves plenty of time to look around the quaint hill top towns and expansive Tuscan landscapes punctuated with those picturesque pencil pines.
We will have a tour leader to help with the language and bus driver, but we won’t be listening to the history of the third duke’s second wife’s butler, rather maximising our photography time. And while we have some specific locations in mind, we’re very open to mixing it up and trying somewhere completely new.
For the second half of our journey, we’ll head east to the magnificent Dolomite mountains where we’ve organised a mountain ascent (by cable car) for both an incredible view and a great lunch! And since Italy isn’t Italy without a visit to Venice, that’s where we’ll finish. Mind you, walking with a group around Venice at any time of the year is nigh on impossible with the crowds, so we’ll spend most of our time on the surrounding islands where (hopefully) the crowds are less.
The cost includes practically everything from Rome to Venice. We cover hotels, all meals and transport (buses and trains). All you’ll need is some pocket money for souvenirs, gelati and a bottle or two of vino rosso.
